This spring semester PLA will bring on three dynamic individuals to take on various responsibilities associated with PLA’s initiative, DigitalLearn.org, a digital literacy website. Working on DigitalLearn.org is a great opportunity to work on a national project impacting a diversity of libraries and nonprofits. Those selected to work on this project will receive a stipend of $500 per semester (January to April or May) for their efforts and will work about 5 - 10 hours a week. This opportunity is a virtual position and applicants can be from anywhere in the US.

eLearning Intern

Responsibilities

  • Plan and create online computer skills tutorials for DigitalLearn.org
  • Create scripts for online classes
  • Leverage instructional design knowledge to create educational and engaging interactive online classes for adult learners
  • Craft handouts to accompany online classes

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
  • Experience in teaching computer classes or working in a computer lab
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Interest in instructional design and online learning
  • Interest in public library or non-profits, especially with digital literacy issues

Spanish eLearning Intern

Responsibilities

  • Translate and create online computer skills tutorials for DigitalLearn.org
  • Edit or create scripts for online classes in Spanish
  • Leverage instructional design knowledge to create educational and engaging interactive online classes for adult learners
  • Record audio in Spanish for online classes
  • Craft or translate handouts to accompany online classes

Qualifications

  • Translate written and verbal communications into Spanish for numerous Spanish speaking populations
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills in Spanish and English
  • Experience in teaching computer classes or working in a computer lab
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Interest in instructional design and online learning
  • Interest in public library or non-profits, especially with digital literacy issues

Outreach and Community Intern

Responsibilities

  • Assist with building awareness about DigitalLearn.org through social media and blogging
  • Update DigitalLearn.org social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr
  • Write creative blog posts related to digital literacy for DigitalLearn.org
  • Creating unique ways to promote DigitalLearn.org
  • Provide assistance with cultivating a high level of engagement within the community of practice on DigitalLearn.org
  • Research and post resources that enhance and add value to the community
  • Engage with the posts on the site by answering questions, providing suggestions, and connecting people
  • Assist with monthly webinars that are part of the community of practice

Qualifications

  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills
  • Experience working with various social media outlets
  • Experience in teaching computer classes or working in a computer lab
  • Interest in public library or non-profits, especially with digital literacy issues
  • Interest in marketing or public relations
